About the event
Vincerò!
Honoring Judith Waranch
Get set for an afternoon of the grandest of grand opera with soprano Elizabeth Caballero, tenor John Pickle, and baritone Timothy Mix in a celebration of the Italian repertoire! Verdian duets will be prominently featured in this program including the gloriously dramatic “Mira, d’accerbe lagrime” from Il trovatore, the magnificently male “Dio che nell’alma infondere” from Don Carlo, and the achingly romantic “Teco io sto” from Un ballo in maschera. While your hearts will be aflame with all that lyrical passion, you might also have to reach for your handkerchief when we present the heart-breaking finale of the most beloved opera of all time – La bohème. We will see that Love and Art are endless, and all through the power of grand opera.
But Art and Love have challenges, and this program is in celebration of a woman whose vision and support through unprecedented and challenging times have been vital to Maryland Opera. Judy Waranch has been our Board President from our founding and through her vision, fortitude and commitment to success we are a healthy, vibrant arts organization with a magnificent future. Her favorite aria is “Nessun dorma” from Turandot which ends with the immortal phrase “Vincerò!” – “I will win!”. This immortal aria will not only end our program but also serve as a motto for our future. We will win!
Do you believe “Vincerò”? If so, celebrate with us the glorious present and future of Grand Opera.
